Former Riverside City College football player Izaac Colunga has been identified as one of the two men who were shot at a house party in Riverside on March 3.
The second man sustained minor injury and was released that same day from Riverside Community Hospital.
It was reported by Colunga’s family March 4 that Colunga, a former cornerback, was awake but doesn’t have movement in his arms or legs. According to a GoFundMe page started by his mother, Colunga was shot in the neck during the shooting and the bullet now sits in his vertebrae.
Colunga, 24, attended Riverside City College from 2012 to 2016 and played football during the 2012-2013 school year.
After graduating, Colunga became a featherweight boxer and holds an undefeated record of three wins and two knockouts, according to BoxRec, an online database that collects and documents professional boxing matches.
As of the morning of March 5, there have been no arrests or potential suspects identified. According to Ryan Railsback, public information officer for Riverside Police Department, detectives are currently looking into leads.
