The Riverside City College Tigers men’s track and field team defeated two of the three NCAA Division 1 opponents in Pepperdine, 148-9, and UC Riverside, 91-69, while falling to Cal State Fullerton, 83-77, March 5 at Arthur N. Wheelock Stadium.
The women’s track and field team was victorious as well but could only manage to beat Pepperdine, 101-49, falling to UCR, 89-59, and CSUF, 75-74.
Sophomore Joshua Silva, pulled out a 1,500-meter run victory with a time of 4 minutes,01.75 seconds, while Crystal Tejeda came in first in the women’s 800-meter run with the time of 2:15.20.
It was a special day for RCC track and field, as they are the only community college in the nation this season to host not one1 NCAA Division 1 school, but three all on the same day.
Riverside will now prepare for the Orange Empire Conference Mutli-Event Championship held at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa from March 9-10 at 8 a.m.
