Women’s cross-country
The Riverside City College women’s cross-country team won its first Orange Empire Conference Championship since 1991.
The RCC Tigers title win, scoring 33 points in the championship race, also snapped the 18-season conference championship streak by the Orange Coast College Pirates. The Saddleback Gauchos scored 52 points to finish second in the race ahead of the Pirates, who finished third with 85 points.
Gauchos’ Sara Fleming finished first with a time of 18:00.0 to win the women’s individual conference title.
The Tigers’ claimed the second, third and fourth place spots out of 62 competitors. Brianna Jacklin finished second with a time of 18:13.4 followed by Crystal Tejeda (18:21.5), who finished third and Maria Morales (18:31.3), who was fourth.
All three of the Tigers top place finishers are freshmen.
RCC will compete at the Southern California Championships at 10 a.m. Nov. 7. The race is located at Woodley Park in Encino.
Men’s cross-country
The Riverside City College Tigers men’s cross-country team finished third at the Orange Empire Conference Championship race held at Craig Park in Fullerton.
The Tigers, who finished with 67 points, trailed Orange Coast College (32 points) and Saddleback College (46 points) that finished first and second respectively.
Sophomore Doug Negrete was the Tigers top place finishers with an eighth place overall finished after posting a time of 21:01.2 in the four-mile race. Negrete was one of three Tigers to receive all-OEC honors. Freshman Anthony Munoz, who finished ninth overall, and freshman Dennis Gonzalez, who finished 14th overall, also received all-OEC honors.
