The Student Trustee elections are coming up; why should you care?

The position of Student Trustee sits on the Board of Trustees and gives a report on student issues to the Board.

The duties for the position include heading up the District Student Senate, approving or vetoing any legislation passed by that Senate and directing programs.

Current Student Trustee Kim Tran feels that it is crucial for students to come out and vote.

“With it being the 90th birthday of RCC, this campus is growing and in order to preserve the rights of the students it is important to vote,” he said. “It is the responsibility of the students to come out and vote.”

Elections will be held online through the WebAdvisor Web site April 5 and 6, which can be accessed through RCC’s Web site at http://www.rcc.edu.

In order to better inform the students of the candidates and their ideas there will be a Student Trustee information forum on the Riverside Campus April 4 at 12:40 p.m.

The Forum gives students a chance to hear what the candidates have to say and ask them some questions before the voting begins.

Forums will also be held on the Moreno Valley and Norco Campuses at 12:40 p.m. on March 28 and 29.

More information on the candidates will be available on WebAdvisor in the voting menu under help.

Tran is anticipating the forums.

“I look forward to seeing the candidates at the forum,” he said.

Results of the election will be posted April 7.

Viewpoints will publish the results of the election as soon as they are released.
