A female victim reported to the Riverside City College campus police that a male suspect attempted to rape her in the women’s restroom in the 1st floor of the Math and Science building on Jan. 15 at approximately 10:30 a.m.
According to the alert on the RCC website, written by Police Chief Jim Miyashiro, the victim was washing her hands when she looked behind her and noticed a suspicious male.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 20-30 years old, black hair, with short black beard, wearing black pants and a black shirt. The description given by the victim matches the description of a suspicious male who was reported lurking in a women’s restroom on campus Jan. 14.
In the Jan. 15 incident, the woman stabbed the suspect in the neck with a pencil, helping her escape, according to police. The suspect remains at large.
“The victim alleged that the male suspect pushed her to the ground and attempted to rape her,” Miyashiro stated.
After the victim escaped, she ran to her class and reported the attack to campus police later in the day.
The police are checking hospitals in the area to see if anyone has checked in with a neck wound, but nothing has turned up.
The Jan. 14 incident at approximately 6:25 a.m., when a male suspect went into the women’s restroom in the Quad and made eye contact with a female student, according to an email sent to the faculty by campus police on the same day.
After making eye contact, the suspect left the restroom but returned a few moments later and entered a stall. The student then left the restroom to report the incident to campus police.
“Although AB 1266 and ED Code 221.5 allow unisex access into sex-segregated facilities, this individual was suspicious because he did not seem to be a student, had walked past other restrooms and was possibly following the victim,” Miyashiro stated.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, approximately 20 years old, 5-foot-7, medium build with short black hair and short black beard. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweater, black shorts with white socks and black tennis shoes.
Police are working to find the suspect and asked anybody with information to call RCC campus police at 951-222-8171. Anyone who thinks they have spotted the suspect should call 911.
