Riverside City College athletic director Derrick Johnson did not have his renewed by the Riverside Community College District Board of Trustees.

According to the Board of Trustees’ minutes from Feb. 17, it states the recommendation for Johnson not to be reemployed by RCC and authorization for RCCD Chancellor, Michael Burke, “to send a notice of non-reemployment for the 2015-16 academic year.”

Johnson, whose hire became effective on Aug. 22, 2012, will have his contract expire June 30, 2015.

College Statement:

The athletic position, like all positions at the College, go through a comprehensive review process. It was through this process that the decision was made not to renew Mr. Johnson’s contract. Mr. Johnson will continue to serve as athletic director until June 30, at that time the College will begin conducting a national search.
