The Riverside City College softball team had no luck this past weekend at the Bakersfield Tournament where the team went 1-3, the sting carried through March 25 when the Santa Ana Dons stomped the Tigers 10-2.
The Dons came out strong scoring five unanswered runs but they weren’t done just yet, despite the Tigers’ efforts with a pitching change to slow down the Dons’ offense Santa Ana rolled on with four runs in the bottom of the second.
RCC had a spark in the third inning when after No. 7 Michelle Paul drew a walk, No. 20 Mercedes Rios hit a blooper to left field that got the Tigers started. RCC was able to scored only two runs despite having bases loaded in two occasions in the third inning.
“We didn’t execute, what we wanted to execute,” said RCC head coach Michelle Daddona after the loss to Santa Ana.
Things settled down after the third inning until the Dons sealed the deal in the fifth inning with their tenth run of the game. Ball game!
Daddona commented that there was a lack of commitment to the approach they had in the beginning of the game, which had helped the Tigers to earn two runs. Also, she expressed her disappointment towards the miss opportunities they had.
The Tigers stand now 3-9 in conference going into today’s game At Golden West at 3 p.m.
As for the remainder of the season there are only 12 games for RCC to turn things around and try to make a run for the playoffs.
