Edgar Wright’s new film, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” is a 64 hit combo. The movie is based on Bryan Lee O’ Malley’s comic book series, “Scott Pilgrim.” The movie is about a slacker, bass guitar playing hero named Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), who meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).
He finds that in order to date her, he must defeat her seven evil exes.
He lives with his gay roommate, Wallace Wells (Kieran Culkin) who trains him. He’s in a band called The Sex Bob-omb with his friends and ex-girlfriend; Stephen Stills (Mark Webber), Kim Pine (Alison Pill), and Young Neil (Johnny Simmons).
The movie is amazing but could be more faithful to the comic book series. The visuals are beautiful and cartoony, something people don’t often see in a movie.
The cast does not fit the original characters, except Cera, Culkin, Ellen Wong, and Jason Schwartzman.
The film’s visuals combine comic book sound effects and 16 bit video games, an amazing combination. The visuals get an “A+” for lighting and excellent effects.
The fight scenes are interesting, funny and epic. The best scene is where Scott goes to the Chaos Theater and battles Ramona’s last evil ex-boyfriend Gideon Gordon Graves (Schwartzman).
The plot is fantastic, original and faithful to the series.
The “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” game came out around the same time as the movie. The game is loosely based on the movie and graphic novel series. It is fun and an old school game to play.
“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” had its moments and this blockbuster is one of the best.
“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” gets 9.5 out of 10 for most creative and it shows it is “the epic of epic epicness.”
