The RCC Tigers beat Cypress, 5-4, April 23 in a thrilling extra inning game.

The Tigers started the game with the right foot forward scoring first in the bottom of the first inning. But it was the Chargers who came up big in the top of the third, with a 2-run homerun from SS Khailey Camp to take the lead.

After that it was an on battle with both teams kept tying up the game every chance they had. It came down to the bottom of the eight inning, bases loaded no outs Austin Schmidt reached on a fielding error by the Chargers’ third base and Crystall Villa came into score the winning run.

The RCC softball team also celebrated sophomore night before the last regular season game of the season. The team honored Austin Schmidt, Desiree Broussard, Jaime Munoz, and Amanda Venegas for their time with the Tigers.

“I think that we ended the season well, and it was really nice to get the win as a team.” said Austin Schmidt when asked about her final game at RCC.

As for what’s next for the Tigers is the second half of the season the playoffs. Even though the Tigers were up in first place for most of the season, they dropped down to third place with a record of 16-5 in conference, 28-11 overall to finish off the season. Coach Daddona still believes her team is in good standings for the playoffs.

“Like we always say these conference games are like playoffs games and they help to give us that edge we need to be ready for the playoffs. Overall it was a good win.” said Daddona.

The Tigers start the playoffs May 3 against Cerritos College in Bakersfield.

“Whatever happened in the season it doesn’t matter anymore, this is the start of the second season the one that counts. We know that’s 0-0 all over again, and if we bring that philosophy and come out strong we’ll go a long way.” said Daddona.
