Riverside City College women’s softball had a 2-1 loss against the Fullerton College Hornets on March 18 at home.

The Tigers’ record is now 7-15. The last game RCC played against Fullerton ended with a 9-5 loss, however in this game RCC kept Fullerton to only 2 runs, improving from the Cerritos game showing they are ready to come out of their slump.

“I thought we played well,” RCC coach Michelle Daddona said, “we talked about after our last loss that we had to have a momentum shift.”

The Tigers’ defense started to slip in the top of the fourth inning when Fullerton scored their two runs from a homerun hit by Anissa Loera. RCC had a total of six hits, with center fielder Michelle Paul scoring the Tigers’ only point in the bottom of the fourth inning when catcher Hunter LaCroix batted her in. This is LaCroix’s first year playing as catcher and looks to improve as the season progresses.

“As she gains (experience) she’s definitely going to be someone to contend with and one of the top players for sure,” Daddona said.

The Tigers will head to the Bakersfield Tournament on March 21 and will go up against Mount San Antonio College. The Tigers had a 9-0 loss when they played the Mounties on Feb. 3.

“Now that we’re comfortable with each other, I think it’ll be different,” LaCroix said. LaCroix says that Mount San Antonio is one of their biggest competitors right now.

RCC’s next game will be March 20 against Orange Coast at home.
