Police are still investigating the armed robbery of Mary Figueroa, current President of the Riverside City College Board of Trustees.
According to the Press-Enterprise, on Oct. 10, Figueroa was leaving the Inland Empire Hispanic Image Awards ceremony hosted at the Riverside Mission Inn around 10 p.m. when the incident occurred.In her statement to the Press-Enterprise,Figueroa recounted how the event unfolded.
A man approached Figueroa and her mother as they walked to their nearby vehicle. The assailant pointed a gun at her and said “Give me the purse,” Figueroa said.
After conceding to the man’s demand,he walked away, she said.According to Riverside Police Sgt.Mark Rossi, the investigation is ongoing.”We have no new leads or any suspects,” Rossi said.
Figueroa is currently running for reelection to her seat on the Board.
