Many pizzerias claim to be pushing out authentic Neapolitan pizza or at the very least gourmet.
Generally when a meal is prepared quickly the quality plummets, however Pizza:90 is looking to change that notion one slice at a time.
Although Pizza:90 is somewhere I’d eventually stumble into as a self-proclaimed connoisseur of good food, what peaked my interests was a promotion.
restaurant promised that if you shared a video of the promo from their Facebook and showed it to the cashier you’d be the recipient of one free piping hot pizza.
When promotions like that come around it’s foolish otherwise to not check it out.
Pizza:90 opened its doors on Dec. 13, 2014 and now stands where Ruby’s Diner was in the Galleria at Tyler.
While Ruby’s Diner had a classic diner-like vibe, Pizza:90 gives off a pub like environment. The restaurant’s dark color palette lent to its cool and relaxed demeanor.
The menu has 10 already named options quaintly called Neapolitan classics from you to choose from including: La Regina with mozzarella, tomatoes, prosciutto, arugula, and Parmesan cheese.
The Neapolitan classics start off as low as $5.85 for the Marinara and reach up to $13.85 for the Bufalina.
However, if you did not wish to eat one of the classics you were free to create your own pizza. The pizzeria starts you off simple with red, white, or green pizza.
Red pizza is simply a San Marzano tomato sauce and mozzarella, while green pizza is pesto sauce also with mozzarella. While I expected white pizza to use alfredo sauce, it was actually was just mozzarella and olive oil.
There’s even a gluten free crust available for $2.00 however since the crust is prepared in the same place as the other dough there’s still a chance for gluten exposure.
Once you’ve figured out which crust and sauce option, here comes the fun part: choosing toppings.
Pizza:90 has easily perfected assembly line style pizza without skimping on options or overcomplicating the ordering process.
The restaurant offers authentic italian toppings like: artichokes, salami, or Gorgonzola cheese.
For $8.45 you can add two toppings and if you feel you need more topping to round out your pizza then you’re looking at an extra $1.25 per topping.
One person stretches the dough, one person sauces, one person applies the toppings, and one person bakes. Each person does their respective job allowing them to focus which in turn expedites the process.
The colon in Pizza:90’s name isn’t just a stylistic choice, it’s their way of telling you how long it takes to bake your pizza.
With a wood fire pizza oven that reaches temperatures up to 900 degrees it only takes 90 seconds for your pizza to bake.
It’s almost impossible to miss their pizza oven in all of its gold tiled glory.
Pizza:90 continued it’s up close and personal approach to pizza by having the oven out where all can see the pizzaiolis or pizza makers in their element.
For the non-pizza eating friend you drag along with you there are five salad options: The Caesar, Market, Caprse, The Capretta and Italian Meats.
The restaurant also has a hand-selected craft beer menu for dine-in costumers according to their website. Being an all-inclusive restaurant Pizza:90 also have a Coca-Cola freestyle machine which has all of Coca-Cola’s products in one machine.
Pizza:90 only has two dessert options so far: two types of cannoli and a creation called Nutella Calzone Pizza.
For now there is only one Pizza:90 restaurant with a location in Irvine arriving in winter.
This pizzeria will surely stand a slice above rest transporting your taste buds with this infectious slice of Italy for hopefully years to come.
