According to Jim Miyashiro, Riverside Community College District police chief, a strong armed robbery incident occurred at Riverside City College Dec. 9 approximately at 7:45 p.m.

Miyashiro said a male RCC student was approached by a Hispanic male near the Admissions and Bookstore building, where the suspect “attempted to forcibly take his smart phone from his hand.”

Miyashiro said the victim was able to get away from the suspect and keep his phone but the victim did receive a minor scratch to his right hand. Miyashiro said the suspect fled the scene heading in the direction of the Quadrangle.

Police chief Miyashiro said the suspect is described as Hispanic, 23 to 24 years old, 5′ 8,” skinny and with a mustache. Miyashiro also said the suspect was last seen wearing a black hoodie, sweatshirt (that was covering his face), black jeans and black “upper/white” sole tennis shoes.

Miyashiro said the victim can identify the suspect if he sees him again but advises RCC students to be cautious at night, and contact campus police immediately if any trouble occurs.

According to the police chief, RCCD police conducted a search for the suspect but the search came up negative.
