The Riverside City College Tigers defeated the University of La Verne Leopards, 79–58, in the first day of the 43th annual RCC holiday tournament Dec. 9.
Tigers’ Sage Woodruff scored a game-high 15 points against the Leopards.
Taj Adams and Jelani Mitchell contributed to the Tigers with 12 points apiece.
The Tigers rallied in the first half to take a one-point lead over the Leopards, 33–32, at halftime.
Adams scored all 12 of his points as the Tigers outscored the Leopards, 46–26, in the second half to seal the victory.
For the Leopards, Jordan Stokes and Brett Stephan contributed with a team-high 12 points. Stokes also had 12 rebounds in the loss.
The Tigers move to 4–6 overall this season and advance to the second round against L.A. Pierce at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 in the Wheelock Gymnasium.
