He initially gained popularity running as a presidential candidate in 2004. In July 2004, John Kerry announced that Edwards would be his running mate. This time around Edwards plans to shoot for the lead position, running for president.

He believes that illegal immigrants should have the chance to pay a fine, learn English, and earn their citizenship.

As far as the environment he proposes to cap greenhouse gas pollution, initiate world climate treaties to reduce pollution and require countries to agree to greenhouse reduction in trade agreements.

Edwards, a Methodist, supports equal rights in civil unions with same-sex couples, but does not support same-sex marriage. He voted to send military troops to Iraq back in 2002 and renounced his vote in 2005.
