Rock stars of the band world

They’re world famous movie and TV stars and they walk among us anonymously. The Riverside City College Marching Tigers are known as Hollywood’s band. They’ve traveled the world and have been featured in movies like “Dear God” and “Austin Powers.” However, before they can be movie stars they must undergo a difficult training regimen that requires sacrifice and discipline.

The reality of reality television

There is an easier way to look for your “soul mate” these days than dating, it’s called reality TV. Whether you live with your parents, by yourself, with your friends or with a bunch of strangers, if you just don’t like whoever your living with, you can easily vote them off.

Tigers run through Cerritos Falcons

A short term memory is a characteristic all good football players must possess, that or the ability to take a hit that causes memory loss. Sophomore running back Jamaal Scott forgot early mistakes to score on a 15 yard run in overtime, which led the Tigers over the visiting Cerritos Falcons 22-16 at Wheelock Stadium on October 20.

Mad libs, dirty limericks at Grind’s poetry night

Where can you hear about the urge to bite off someone’s nose, talking statues, environmental awareness, vampires, and ether all in an hour and a half? Every Monday night from 9-10:30 p.m. Riverside Underground Poetry Organization’s poetry night is held in the basement of local coffee shop Back to the Grind.

Behold the ‘Orange Box’

In what can only be considered the greatest bargain since one-dollar “McRib,” “The Orange Box” includes three games (“Portal”, “Team Fortress 2”, and “Half-Life 2” and its two expansions) for the price of one. “Half-Life 2”, released for the PC almost three years ago, is considered by many to be one of the greatest games ever made.

Very recently moving from a small town with very little in the way of dining options, my husband and I are delighted to find so many choices in our new Riverside location. We had the pleasure of visiting Killarney’s Restaurant and Irish Pub located at 3639 Riverside Plaza Dr.

Food fight

We’re thinking of dropping our classes. We’re not leaving campus; we just want to be able to eat. We were getting lunch the other day in the cafeteria and by the time we bought our food and sat down, we realized that we were broke. Prices in the cafeteria may not have spiked to unreasonable prices, but they have risen where it can be noticed.

Southern California devastation

Firefighters battled to contain the Little Mountain fire threatening nearby homes near the San Bernardino hillside on Oct. 22. The fire started around 1:30 p.m. in the Little Mountain area and consumed over 600 acres. According to Steve Tracy, spokesman for the San Bernardino Fire Department, the fire had zero percent containment as of 3:30 p.m. that day.

Dancing to raise awareness

Creative performances are how the organization Dancers for Life promotes awareness and funds for HIV and AIDS. Dancers for Life is a group of artists and choreographers with a mission to make a positive impact on the HIV and AIDS pandemic. Founded in 1991 by Jo Dierdorff, Dance Instructor at Riverside City College, Dancers for Life has raised over $60,000.
