Riverside City College wide receiver Isaac Whitney has signed his letter of intent to play wide receiver at USC on Dec.18.
Whitney waited until the day after the official Mid-Year transfer’s signing day for junior college players to make the announcement in front of both family and friends.
Whitney had members of his family, such as his mother, fly in for the decision.
“My family is from Oklahoma and they all came out,” Whitney explained. “It is really important because they are the (reason) I am putting in all this hard work in for and I want them to be able to see it.”
Whitney had at least 15 offers from NCAA football programs that included Washington State, Florida and Louisville and Nebraska.
James Kuk, RCC’s assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator, spoke highly of Whitney and the way he handed the process.
“With him being here (at RCC) he has had a great run with us,” Kuk added. “He has handled himself really well with maturity and class.”
Kuk stated that at one point Whitney was not sure how things would actually play out at RCC as far as getting to the next level but he quickly began to receive interest and offers as the 2014 season went along.
“(The recruiting process) has been kind of crazy with phone calls everyday,” he said. “It can get tiring and kind of old but it was all worth it. I like having the attention, it shows that I did something good.”
RCC head football coach Tom Craft spoke highly of Whitney during a press conference located in the hall of fame room Dec. 17.
“He is the most highly recruited athlete in football since I have been here,” Craft said. “He had multiple offers and they were all from big schools.”
Whitney made the decision Dec. 18 when he narrowed his options down to the USC Trojans and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
“I think they are both great programs,” Whitney said a day before his announcement. “They both give me the opportunity I want to go to the NFL.”
If Whitney did decide to sign with the Mountaineers, he would of joined former RCC starting quarterback Skyler Howard, who played as the starter in the final game of the 2014 season for West Virginia.
