Riverside City College Active Minds club hosted the “Send Silence Packing” event on Sept. 10 in the RCC quad.

The event is a nationally traveling exhibition of 1,100 donated backpacks. Each of the backpacks represent the number of college students that lose their life by committing suicide. The purpose of the event was to bring awareness and encourage people to reach out for help before it is too late.

There were 1,100 backpacks laid out across every part of the lawn in the quad. Each of the backpacks told a story about one of the victims.

Not long after the backpacks were placed in the quad, students were coming out of class to notice all these backpacks laying on the lawn and many of them took the time to stop to read the personal and emotional stories.

Many of these stories were written by family members and close friends of the victims.
