Volleyball ends dry spell defeating Golden West

The Riverside City College Volleyball team had not beaten Golden West College in over three seasons and prior to that the last dry spell lasted approximately 20 years. The losing streak ended Oct. 28 as the Tigers defeated Golden West, 3-1.

Host Golden West College defeats Riverside City College Volleyball team

The Riverside City College volleyball team fell to host Golden West College suffering its second loss this season, 3-0, on Oct. 2. Ending its three game winning streak, the defeat was the the worst for RCC all season as it was the first time this season the Tigers were not able to win a single set in the game.

Despite normally being offensively sound, RCC struggled against the Rustlers. By beating RCC 25-11 in the opening set and 25-13 in the final set, Golden West held the Tigers to its two lowest point totals in a set this season.

Volleyball team sweeps San Bernardino Valley College

The Riverside City College Volleyball team collected its seventh overall win Sept. 29 against San Bernardino Valley College. The victory was the third consecutive win for the Tigers.

Both teams maintained close pace with one another. Despite several lead changes both teams were able to get back into close range whenever the other team pulled too far ahead.

VOLLEYBALL: Tigers’ improve to 6-1 overall after defeating Cerritos College

Riverside City College defeated Cerritos College for its sixth volleyball game of this season Sept. 23 at home in the Arthur N. Wheelock Gym.

The Tigers started the first set by jumping out to a quick seven to three lead before Cerritos came to tie the set at eight a piece. RCC would go on to take the lead 14-8 and would seal the game at 25-16.

Containing Cerritos was a little more difficult in the second set, as there were 10 ties and five lead changes. 13-12 was the closest this game was before RCC was able to capture the victory 25-18.

VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Tigers win five of their last six games

The Riverside City College Volleyball team has won five of its last six games, losing only the first game outside of tournament play, 3-1, against defending CCCAA champions, College of the Canyons, Sept. 16 in the Arthur N. Wheelock Gym.
