The Riverside Community College District hired Lorraine Jones, who currently has a lawsuit filed against her for negligence in handling an alleged rape and sexual harassment at Mount San Antonio College, as the compliance officer February 16 sparking concern with members of the faculty association.
Hoku Jeffery, Southern California- Los Angeles Metropolitan Region representative of the non-profit organization By Any Means Necessary who coordinated marches and protests for Aarefa Mosavi, an alleged victim of rape at Mt. SAC, will be participating in an open forum March 23 addressing student concerns about Lorraine Jones being hired with RCCD.
The forum will be held in the RCC cafeteria located in the Bradshaw Building from 12:50 to 1:50 p.m
The civil lawsuit is ongoing and no conclusion has been reached as to whether there was misconduct on Jones’ part.
The president of Riverside City College’s Faculty Association Dariush Haghighat said that the association is not jumping to any conclusions, but takes the allegations seriously and expects the district to investigate the issue.
According to Haghighat, a verbal agreement was made between Chancellor Michael Burke and the faculty association to include the association in the hiring process of a district compliance officer because of past concerns with the position.
There is no current policy outlining a clear hiring process for the position of district compliance officer. RCCD Board of Trustees President Virginia Blumenthal said a policy will be created to avoid further complications with the issue. The policy is projected to be introduced at the April 5 Board of Trustees meeting in the District Offices at 6 p.m. located at Centennial Plaza located at 3801 Market Street.
