Riverside City College hosted a transfer fair in the Quad showcasing a variety of universities including online, private and international. Students had the opportunity to speak with counselors, advisors and representatives from the various colleges at the fair held Oct. 19.
The event was attended by many students who seemed eager to speak with the representatives from the various universities.
There were a wide variety of colleges in attendance at the transfer fair. Not only were the students engaged, but the representatives were ecstatic while answering the various questions students had.
“This event was informative and interesting,” said RCC student Danielle Martinez. “I also found it to be influential.”
“Students can get engaged hands on learning from the programs offered at La Sierra University,” said Elizabeth Ortiz, a student representative for La Sierra University’s criminal justice program.
Many universities not only offer classes on campus. They also offer special programs and online branches of universities can be taken and accredited such as schools like Brandman University.
“Schools such as Brandman University offer online and hybrid classes and are a branch of Chapman University, said Candice Carter, a RCC alumna and Brandman University representative. “They provide flexible and affordable education for the adult learner.”
For students who are looking for an international degree, Macquarie University of Sydney Australia was present at the event to inform students what they offered, such as three-year Bachelor programs that are cost effective. Students who qualify, may use financial aid to potentially cover all costs.
“Having an international degree in today’s society is of much importance,” said Lea-Anne Allen, international manager and representative of Macquarie University.
Monica Delgadillo, an RCC associate professor, counselor and coordinator for transferring, explained the significance of the event. She said Universities are broadening access for all students by offering more learning opportunities than ever before.
“This event was held with the plan to increase the transfer rate and inform students of the importance of transferring and encouraging the ones who may be thinking about transferring,” Delgadillo said.
“In hopes of adhering to a wider range of students this day is of high importance,” said Garth Schultz, RCC associate professor and counselor. “The transfer fair also served as a reminder that the deadline to apply for a university is Nov. 30.”
