Current Riverside City College president Cynthia Azari was selected to be the interim chancellor of the Riverside Community College District, which includes Riverside City College, Moreno Valley College and Norco College.
The Board of Trustees voted unanimously 5-0 in a closed session of the board of trustee’s meeting at Norco College.
“We look forward to working with Dr. Azari as we proceed with a national search for a permanent chancellor during the 2013-14 academic year,” Board of Trustee President Virginia Blumenthal said in a statement.
“Dr. Azari’s selection as interim chancellor reaffirms the Board’s commitment to maintaining continuity of leadership and continuing progress on student success initiatives, as well as ensuring that the colleges and district remain stable and strong as they prepare for upcoming accreditation visits.”
Azari has been the president of Riverside City College since April 2011. Previously, she was also the president of Fresno City College and vice chancellor of the State Center Community College District.
Azari will begin her new duties as the interim chancellor July 1, 2013, following the departure of current Chancellor Gregory Gray.
Gray accepted an offer to become the next president of Board of Regents for Higher Education on May 1.
The Board of Regents for Higher Education governs the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities.
Gregory Gray has served as the chancellor of the RCCD since July 1, 2009.
One of Azari’s first tasks will be to recommend an interim president of RCC Blumenthal said.
