The Riverside Community College women’s tennis team (6-0) kept their record perfect in the sixth meet of the season with a win on March 1 against Cypress Community College (0-1) at RCC.
The match was the first of the season for the Cypress team because its scheduled games in the last two weeks were canceled due to heavy rainfall.
The Tigers won all eight of their singles matches. Briana Aviles, in the 6 position, shut out Cypress’ Erica Nunez with 6-0, 6-0 in both her matches. Lily Cornejo (RCC) lost her first match 4-6 to Jade Martinez (CYP), but came back to win the next two matches 6-4. This win placed Cornejo at the top of the records list with Jocelyn Holt, both with six wins and no losses this season.
Holt and teammate Rebecca Racataian both won their matches by identical scores of 6-0, 6-1. Lauren Huxen won her match 6-4, 6-0 and Karissa Lentz prevailed as well at 6-1, 6-0.
The Tigers shut out Cypress by winning all three doubles matches for a final score of RCC-9, CYP-0.
Undoubtedly, RCC is home to a talented and competitive women’s tennis team.
Coach Nikki Bonzoumet said: “All of the players on our team are equally important. They are all stars.”
