One of the hardest things to do in any sport is to learn from your mistakes and grow as a player.
In his first year as a starter, freshman quarterback Coy Glass has shown significant signs of improvement.
Glass led the Tigers to a 32-26 victory over the Santa Ana Dons in the Tigers final game of the season.
“I think he’s developed a lot” said head coach Bill Brown of quarterback Glass. “Being a quarterback is not an easy job, and he’s rapidly improved.”
Glass accounted for all four of the tiger’s touchdowns, throwing for two and running for another two.
The victory put the team at 5-4 on the season, with a 2-2 record in conference play.
The Tigers seized momentum from the opening drive with a key fourth down stop inside their own 10 yard line.
The offense quickly turned this momentum into a scoring drive, capping it with a 27 yard touchdown pass from Glass to receiver Josh Pender, who also had an outstanding game with 107 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns.
A touchdown run by Glass put the Tigers up 17-0 with 2:55 left in the half.
However, in what seemed like the longest 3 minutes in college football history, the Dons quickly responded with a touchdown pass of their own, followed by an onside kick and another quick score.
Not to be outdone, the Tigers rallied for a 50 yard scoring pass of their own with 48 seconds remaining in the half, taking a halftime lead of 24-17.
With the score 32-26, sophomore Tyler Floyd intercepted Mark Iddin’s pass in the Tigers end zone to seal the victory.
With the victory, the Tigers had hoped to get a bowl berth. However, one of the Tigers’ games against Mt. San Antonio was cancelled early in the year, due to the wildfires.
“It was a big disappointment not to play that game.” said Coach Brown. “We were one win away from getting a bowl berth.”
The victory finishes off the Tigers season on the right note, which is great for a team that had so many obstacles throughout the season.
“We overcame many things this year, but the team hung in, played hard, and we ended with a winning season” said Brown.
