The Riverside Community College men’s tennis team had a rough start last week with a loss to Saddleback, but finished strong with a win over Victor Valley.
On March 29 Riverside took on the Saddleback Gauchos. They suffered an upsetting loss 8-1. Riverside lost all of their singles matches. Its only win came in No.3 doubles.
This was almost a repeat of the first time the Tigers met Saddleback. The Gauchos swept the singles competition then, and Riverside’s only win came in doubles.
It was a tough match for the team but they had no trouble coming back to defeat Victor Valley two days later on March 31. The men won 9-0 in the non-conference match.
Three of Riverside’s points came due to forfeits. Victor Valley was only able to compete with four players.
The Tigers now have an overall record matching their conference record of 6-5.
On April 5 the team had an exciting match against Orange Coast as they came to the end of the conference play. Riverside’s last game against the Pirates resulted in a loss. The team played hard and was looking to turn the tables but couldn’t pick up the victory.
The Tigers’ final home game will be April 7 when they take on the Cypress Chargers for the second time.
