The Riverside City College baseball team ran away with a 5-3 win, against Santa Barbara City College on March 23, despite a scoreless four innings.
The Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak in the non-conference baseball game, helping the team improve 12-8 overall.
Both SBCC and the Tigers had trouble scoring early until Vaqueros’ Nicolas Bereaud singled to centerfield and brought in teammate Chris Smutny in the fifth inning for the first run of the game.
Tigers’ Sean Smith then ignited RCC after scoring their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Smith singled twice and scored twice in the game.
The bottom of the seventh and eighth innings were crucial for the Tigers as they scored twice in each inning.
Pitcher Angel Delgado had four strikeouts, allowed three hits and no runs in three innings. However, it was Andrew O’Brien, the third of five RCC pitchers, who was credited with the win to improve 3-1 after pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
RCC is scheduled to host Taft College on March 24 at 6 p.m.
