The average student wandering the walkways of Riverside City College may be surprised to find that the Digital Library Auditorium plays host to at least two live music performances every week. If you’re looking to rock out, you may have to adjust your tastes for these concerts.

There is actually a game that has the power to take away your soul. The “World of Warcraft” is so addicting and so powerful, people forget to eat, sleep and use the bathroom while they play. I bet they even forget that bath water ever existed. Just how strong is the “World of Warcraft?” Over 5 million people in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America play the game daily.

When I think of all the things this world needs, another Starbucks is pretty low on the list. Unfortunately, that’s what we’re getting. It’s not hard to find a Starbucks near you. Everywhere you turn, you see a Starbucks or at least the little green logo.

Daniel Castro, Riverside City College president, was making a serious attempt to bring a college into the 21st century. Unfortunately for RCC, Long Beach City College was the campus in his sights. Castro was making a hard sell to LBCC as he attempted to win the presidency of that campus.

After 15 years of creating button pushing albums and soundtracks, fourteen of Massive Attack’s beloved singles have been “Collected.” The trio from Britain has long been credited with the start of trip-hop and ambience. Consider, without Massive Attack there would be no Tricky, Portishead and a host of other chill out DJs.

Nothing, save the hand of the man himself, could have kept me from seeing Bob Dylan in concert on Oct. 20. Not even getting lost in Los Angeles’ dubious Jewelry district for three hours prior. Not the city’s serpentine bus system that brought my suburban self to Sixth and Olive rather than my buddy’s dorm at UCLA.

Bret Easton Ellis is one of those ‘great American writers’ an author deserving of a title that forces students to read those literary anthologies. Yet, it will be a while before Ellis is even included in that sort of anthology. Hardly anthology material, Ellis’s work subjects range between substance and drug abuse, promiscuity, narcissism and nihilism.

There is the proverbial saying that nothing great in life has ever been accomplished with ease and without sacrifice.   By all accounts, 38-year-old Reyna De Leon was the embodiment of this maxim. Despite the onset of a life-threatening illness and the amputation of a portion of her right leg due to complications from diabetes, the single mother of two had persevered and was looking forward to a promising future.

Truth be told, I’ve never been a Depeche Mode fan. Having been raised on country music and transitioning not so smoothly into rock and heavy metal, I never found myself longing to listen to them. The only songs I was familiar with were those that had been covered by harder bands (namely Marilyn Manson & Lacuna Coil’s covers of “Personal Jesus” and “Enjoy the Silence,” respectively.
