Dontel James and Riverside City College earned its first victory of the season following a game on the road against Bakersfield, 33-14.

The Tigers were ranked No. 3 in the 2015 Preseason Junior College Athletic Bureau Poll of CCCFCA coaches but could move into the Top 2 following Mt. SAC’s loss to College of the Canyons, 30-6.

A promising football road

City College of San Francisco was ranked second in the preseason poll behind Mt. SAC.

James rushed for 87 yards on 18 carries for two touchdowns against the Renegades. Durron Burton also caught a 12-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Kevin Olsen.

Olsen, who previously played at University of Miami and Towson University, was a late add to the Tigers roster and played in the first half.

The last score for the Tigers came on the defensive side of the ball as Shiloh Pritchard recovered a fumble and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown. The Tigers would go scoreless in the second half.

Renegades quarterback Tarek Yaeggi went 18 of 30 for 142 yards with one touchdown and an interception against the Tigers’ defense.

Silas Stewart and AJ Hotchkins had six tackles apiece for the Tigers.

The Tigers will return to the field at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 against Saddleback College for the first of a two game homestand.
