A Riverside City College student tested positive for tuberculosis, according to a press release sent out by Riverside County Public Health and the Riverside Community College District.
The student is being treated and is expected to recover, according to the statement. While the identity of the student is not being revealed, the individual will not return to school until a medical clearance has been issued.
Riverside County health officials have sent out a letter to students and the parents of students under 18 who have been identified as potentially being exposed to tuberculosis while on the campus.
Any potential staff members who may have been exposed will receive a notification from RCC.
“While the risk of infection is low, it is important that those who are notified take the time to get tested,” Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser stated in the press release. “It will provide peace of mind for those who are concerned about being exposed or begin the next step in the evaluation process.”
