With less than three months left until the first kickoff of the 2012 season, Riverside City College football is heading into its preseason rank No. 7 in the nation, according to a poll.

JCgridiron.com has released its preseason poll rankings and RCC is No. 7, and is one of four California community colleges to be in the top 10.

Mt. San Antonio College leads the preseason poll as No. 1, followed by the defending state champion, City College of San Francisco as No. 3 and El Camino College as No. 6.

RCC was added to the Southern California Football Association’s first tier in January, following a 11-0 season in 2011 and a 10-1 season in 2010. RCC is now in the National Central Conference.

This upcoming season Riverside is adding 20 new players in starting positions, 11 on offense and nine on defense. Tyler Shreve, a transfer from the University of Utah, is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Tigers this season, according to Allan Steele of The Press-Enterprise.

Riverside and the other colleges begin practice on Aug. 9, according to the Southern California Football Association’s website.

Riverside opens its season on Sept. 1 at Ventura College at 6 p.m. The rest of RCC’s 2012 schedule follows:
