Wii U, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3,” “Gears of War 3” and “Battlefield 3” were the only few in a gigantic list of what drew huge crowds in this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

E3 started off this year with Microsoft’s press release on June 6 with Sony and Nintendo’s press releases following after.

The three giants announced many titles; some seemed fun and interesting, while others a bit strange and out there, then there were the main event titles. Some the highly anticipated games this year were the epic trilogies, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3,” “Gears of War 3” and “Battlefield 3.”

With lines to demo the game at over an hour at the shortest, these games, among many others made their presence known.

The games itself looked amazing, their respective consoles spared no time in showing off their capabilities.

What Nintendo lacked in motion control, they made up for with something new to show the crowd.

The Wii U is Nintendo’s new home console, sporting a new, more round design, moving away from the sharp square edges its previous systems boasted. This new system includes a new controller as well that has a built in 6.2-inch touch screen display that still has traditional button and two analog joy sticks as well.

The system itself will have support for full HD display with options for 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i, no longer forcing gamers to stick to SD.

But while Nintendo’s line crowded around the new Wii U, Sony and Microsoft wowed the attendees with various titles that took advantage of the PlayStation Move for the PlayStation 3 and the Kinect for the Xbox 360.

Games such as “Resistance 3” and “Dance Central 2” allowed players to bust a move and save the world without having to sit and tab buttons, but rather stand up and immerse themselves in the game they were experiencing.

The Kinect too demonstrated its capabilities with promising titles such as “Dance Central 2,” “Star Wars Kinect,” and many other titles that put to good use the 3D motion camera the Kinect has.

Motion controls aside, the main games that drew in the biggest lines this year were “Gears Of War 3,” “Battlefield 3” and “Call Of Duty 3.”

“Gears of War 3” comes back with another installment to the series with amazing graphics and a multiplayer that was refined during the Beta that was released earlier this year. Epic Games, the company behind the franchise pulled out all the stops in bringing a great story that will have fans at the edge of their seat as they fight of waves and waves of locust in September.

Dice, the makers behind the “Battlefield” franchise also had huge crowds this year with another promising game that will give any other “first person shooter,” a run for its money. Not only has the game been revamped with a compelling story line, but it will also feature the new Frostwire 2 engine, which should allow the game to look stunning.

Thanks to the new graphics engine the level of destructibility that appeared in the previous installments will be that much better. Add that with a storyline that takes place in what appears to be the Middle East and action packed gameplay, DICE will have gamers rushing to pick up a copy come October.

The last of the game trilogies at E3 was the third installment to the “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” series.

With the trailers leaking out to the public only several weeks before E3, Infinity Ward and Activision made up for the early release with new trailers and a sneak peak at their title to anyone who dared wait in a line lasting easily over an hour.

The trailers gave glimpses of several countries, with a battle taking place at each of them, even on good old American soil.

Activision and Infinity Ward took a different turn in this installment and went back to the first “Modern Warfare” roots, and bringing it back to the core of the game, its gameplay. With less emphasis on a crazy over the top story the game puts a higher priority on the actual gameplay itself, making sure it’s not only easy to pick up, but fun  and entertaining for gamers.

“Modern Warfare” will have to raise the bar and stand out from the rest of the shooters this year and make an impact upon it’s release in September.

Though lacking in shooters and over the top games, Nintendo’s list of game releases for the year did seem promising to some, with popular and exciting titles releasing on its console and hand-helds.

Some anticipated 3D titles announced this year were “Paper Mario,” “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D” and “Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater” and “Star Fox 64 3D.”

On the console front, lines stretched along for a chance to play “Just Dance 2,” “Kirby Wii,” “Mario Party 9” and the highly anticipated “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.”

Skyward Sword boasts in its promise to bring action packed sword fighting to the player as they take the role of link and once more journey to save the princes.

The sword fighting will take advantage of the Wii’s MotionPlus technology and allow players to strategically lunge and slash as realistically as possible.

The new title will hit the shelves in time for the holiday season.
