The Riverside Community College men’s tennis team is off to a rough start, but is expected to do well this season.
“I see us between second and fourth in conference depending on how matches fall,” Coach Tony Chatfield said.
In its home match on Feb. 24 against Irvine Valley, RCC lost its third consecutive and second straight match in conference play.
RCC Tigers had a chance after it’s singles matches keeping the points tied at 3-3.
Star freshman Andy Meister led the team with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
“Andy is adjusting from high school and is doing well figuring out the difference,” said Chatfield.
Alex Talbi followed with 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Mark Lacson won with 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
Also in the match, the Tigers were defeated in doubles and lost the match 6-3.
The Tigers flipped its losing streak with a 9-0 victory over Cypress on March 1.
Luis Sadik, Tony McGuire and Rusty Bale all won their singles matches 6-0. Meister won 6-0, 6-3, Talbi won 6-3, 6-1 and S. Zanini added with 6-0, 6-4.
The Tigers also won its doubles matches 8-1, 8-1 and 8-2.
