The fall sports season has drawn to a close, and with it ends another season of sports at Riverside Community College.
Several athletes have proven themselves over the past few months and showed enough skill for the Orange Empire Conference to name them to the All-Conference for their particular sport.
Volleyball had three people named All Conference. Head coach Suzie Hauck was named the Orange Empire Coach of the Year, D’Ann Gorman named on the first team and Reanna Conenna on the second team. Overall, the team finished with a record of 7-10 and a conference record of 6-8.
Football had 12 players named to the all conference team: four offensive and eight defensive.
Offensive center David Leach, defensive lineman Renell Robinson, defensive back Chris Bolden, and defensive linebackers Darren Sims and Randall Smith were named to the first team.
Players on the second team include running back Keith Bizzle, guard Matt Lawrie, tackle Chris Barnes, defensive back Andre Saulsberry, outside linebacker Nick Neal, defensive end Jeff Benjamin, and defensive lineman Devin McWilliams.
Overall, football finished the season with a record of 5-5 and a conference record of 3-2.
Women’s water polo had 10 players named to the all conference team, including one co-MVP, Dayna Van Gorder. Stephanie Glendenning, Loren Myers, Stacey Rahn, and Lauren Williams were selected for the first team. Cydney Owen, Christin Boebinger and Katie Inglett were named to the second team. Two other team members, Corrie Stuursma and Jennifer Laumea, received honorable mentions.
The women’s water polo team finished with an overall record of 28-5 and a conference record of 5-1.
In cross country, the women’s team finished second at state finals, the best place the team has ever finished. Two top finishers from Riverside were Karissa Holcomb, who placed fifth, and Angella Nanyoni, who placed 12th.
Other women’s cross country athletes in the state finals were Amy Gilsen, who finished 22nd; Laura Moore, 37th; Natasha Montoya, 41st; Cristy Hoover, 43rd; and Laura Fairley, 44th.
The final meet record for the women overall is 5-1, with a conference record of 5-1.
Four players were selected from the men’s soccer team for All-Conference. Leading goal scorer Giovanni Melloni and Joel Torres were selected for the first team, while Edson Codero and goalie Gabriel Esqueda were selected for the second team.
The team ended the season with an overall record of 9-6-3 and a conference record of 6-6-2.
