Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) announced May 27 that the Riverside Community College District has received a $12.8M grant from the California Department of Education.

According to a press release issued by Roth the grant will fund 18 career technical education programs and Communication Technologies, Product Development / Advanced Manufacturing, and Health Science and Medical Technology sectors, and will serve over 16,000 students in Inland Southern California over three years.

“Ensuring our students are prepared to be competitive and successful in the 21 century economy continues to be one of my top priorities,” said Senator Roth in the press release. “This grant is a critical investment in our region’s future and for Inland Southern California’s recovering economy that will create real jobs in high-demand fields. I am very pleased that by awarding this grant, CDE has recognized RCCD’s regional and statewide significance in achieving those goals.”

The grant will be disbursed through the California Career Pathways Trust program which was created in 2013. Funds in the amount of $250M will be made available available to school districts, county superintendents of schools, direct-funded charter schools, regional occupational centers or programs operated by a joint powers authority, and community college districts in the form of one-time competitive grants.
