The RCC Men’s Tennis team continued their form of great play with a dominant 7-2 win against Palomar College at home.

The Tigers, who had an underwhelming 2-3 record on Feb. 10, reeled off nine victories in their last 12 matches and have positioned themselves within one game of second place Saddleback College in the Orange Empire Conference. The Tigers will host the Gauchos on April 3.

Defeating the Palomar Comets wasn’t an easy task though. Aside from the very capable opposition, another obstacle the Tigers had to overcome was the scorching weather in Riverside.

On a day where temperatures reached highs of 94, the Tigers needed every ounce of Gatorade to edge out the Comets. Among the highlights was a straight set 6-1, 6-0 victory by Edward Riman, which he followed with an 8-1 win in doubles with teammate Mathieu Willockx.

The Tigers finish off the season with two very crucial home matches before regional play begins April 7.

The first match is against Orange Coast College Pirates, winner of three consecutive matches, followed by a possible season ending second place conference match against reeling Saddleback College.

In their first encounters, RCC defeated Pirates narrowly 5-4, but lost 6-3 to Gauchos.
