Riverside City College’s Student Sustainability Collective and the Wood Streets Green Team are hosting a tree planting workshop, workparty, and potluck Sunday, March 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will be held at the RCC Community Garden located near the Math and Science Building on upper campus.

Kathy Swanson, A University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardener, will be present to break ground and plant the first trees at the garden site.

Kathy is well versed in gardening, composting, vermiculture, companion planting, edible landscaping, and water wise gardening.

Immediately following the workshop will be a potluck community feast. All attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.

“The Harvest”

The Associated Students of Riverside City College will be presenting a free screening of the documentary “The Harvest/La Cosecha” on Wednesday, April 3 at 6 p.m.

The screening will take place in RCC’s Digital Library Auditorium.

The film tells the story of the more than 400,000 American students that are torn from their lives to harvest the food needed to feed America.

Zuelma, Perla and Victor are three children working as migrant farm workers.

The film follows the children around the country as they work in grueling conditions to help provide for their families.

Free popcorn and drinks will be offered at the screening.

To receive refreshments, students must bring their own cup and bowl.

Following the film, there will also be a raffle for the students who choose to bring cups and bowls from home.
