Football team lose five straightRCC Football increases their losing streak to five in an Oct. 18 match against top-ranked Mt. San Antonio College. The Tigers put up 252 yards of total offense under the leadership of sophomore quarterback Coy Glass. Glass threw 14 of 29 for 151 yards. However, Riverside only managed to score seven points.
Mt. San Antonio, ranked No. 1 in the nation, ran for 255 yards and threw for another 331 yards. The Mounties freshman quarterback Nick Lamaison has been named the Southern California Football Association, Central Conference Player of the Week for his performance against Riverside.
Riverside hosts Cerritos in the Homecoming 2008 game Oct. 25 at 6 p.m.
Volleyball snaps three-game losing streak in match with SaddlebackWomen’s Volleyball ended a three-match losing streak by downing Saddleback. The Tigers won three straight sets 25-12, 25-17, 25-23. Freshman Janet Ugaitafa scored 11 kills and 16 assists. Sophomore Brittney Rush scored 8 kills of 12 attempts.
Riverside is in 2nd place for overall kills, digs, and assists but is currently in fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference. The Tigers continue conference play on-the-road against the first ranked Orange Coast Pirates, Oct. 24.
Women’s Waterpolo increase win streak to 21 after winning battle of the beach
Riverside Women’s Water Polo expand their win streak to 21. The Tigers won the Battle of the Beach Tournament in Long Beach Oct. 18 adding four more wins to their record.
The Tigers racked up three dominating wins over Mt. San Antonio (16-2), American River (8-1) and Sierra (12-4) colleges. Riverside faced its toughest competition to date in the tournament finals against Long Beach City College. The Tigers fell behind quick in first half, trailing 3-1. They rallied back in second half, scoring three unanswered points for a 4-3 victory. It was the closest match of the season for Tigers who have outscored opponents 320-129. Sophomore Ashley de Jonckheere led the team with 2 goals.
The Tigers wrap up their season against California Baptist University Oct. 30 at 3 p.m.
Men’s Soccer lose three straightIrvine Valley College handed the Tigers their third straight loss Oct. 21 at Bobby Bonds Field.
Dorian Ferias and Arnulfo Sanchez, Orange Empire Conference’s leading scorers, both contributed a goal.
The loss drops RCC back to fourth in conference standings. The Tigers will try to recover Oct. 24 as they face Santa Ana as they wrap up conference play.
