On March 3 the Riverside City College fastpitch team welcomed Orange Coast College to RCC for their second meeting of the season. It was more of the same as the Tigers once again defeated the Pirates with an 11-0 thumping.
The game started out with the Tigers being up 5-0 at the end of the first inning with some help from catcher Jennifer Grutz’s homerun. In the second inning, the tigers again outscored Coast 4-0, making the score at the end of the second 9-0. In the third inning, Dianna Torrez scored off a single by Jamie Schmidt.
The game was called in the fifth inning because of a decency rule. According to the decency rule, when one team is ahead by more than eight points after the fifth inning then the game is called.
Pitcher Amanda Mesa had another dominating performance and picked up the victory for the Tigers with two hits through five innings. Her record is an impressive 6-0 on the season. With the victory, the team improves their record to a solid 13-4 overall, 5-2 in conference play.
